Who is eligible for the Facebook Fellowship Program?

- Be admitted to a PhD program at an accredited university in the fall following the application cycle (Fall 2023)

Eligibility Criteria for Facebook Fellowship Program
You are eligible to apply for the program as long as you:
- Be enrolled in a PhD program at an accredited university in the fall following the application cycle (i.e. fall 2023)
- Engaged in research related to computer science and engineering in meta-related fields, as defined in Fellowships available Section
This Facebook Fellowship program is open to students from all recognized universities worldwide.
You will do that no Eligible if you are:
- Graduation before the fall following each application cycle
- Plan to work part-time at another competing company while participating in the fellowship
- A squad worker in Meta. We cannot pay CW wages and stipend together.
- A resident of Meta AI
- Planning to do a part-time internship with a competitor During Academic Year (Fall/Spring). You can do summer internship in another company. First In fellowship or summer between academic year during the Facebook Fellowship Program. This includes extending the internship into the fall.
We will not make awards to candidates whose research falls outside the specified research areas described. Fellowships available Section Please review the description of each available fellowship carefully to ensure you are aligned with the correct research area.
We are currently unable to provide small grants such as undergraduates, graduates in various disciplines, or alternative funding.
What does the award mean?
Winners of the Meta Research PhD Fellowship are entitled to:
- Two years of paid tuition and fees
- A $42,000 annual stipend to cover living expenses
- Various opportunities to engage with meta-researchers
- Invitation to the Annual Fellowship Summit
Meta does not Claim any rights to work done during or as a result of the fellowship. All research conducted by Fellows belongs to Fellows. This does not include any work completed as a meta-employee, should a fellow undertake an internship or consult as part of their fellowship.

Facebook Fellowship Program Funding Details
Payment
Tuition will be paid directly to the school. A total stipend of $42,000 will be paid to the Fellow by direct deposit, unless otherwise specified. The stipend should be paid directly to the Fellows. Stipend payments are sent each year after receipt of the tuition invoice for the respective fall term.
Award funds are provided during the fall term of the year(s) awarded and expire at the end of the spring term. If a fellow graduates in the middle of the academic year, they will receive their full tuition for the semester, plus half of their stipend amount (in alignment with the semester).
Transferring universities during the fellowship should not normally be a problem with payment. Please get in touch academicrelations@fb.com For more information.
Use of funds and other restrictions
- A $42,000 stipend cannot be sent as gift funding to a university lab. The stipend should be paid directly to the Fellows.
- Tuition and stipend/travel funds cannot be combined and paid to the University.
- Fellows do not receive supplies directly from META, but are free to use their stipend to purchase computers or equipment necessary for their research.
- Fellows may not participate in Meta's savings account plans (eg, 401k, health savings account, etc.) because they are not Meta's employees.
Tax information
Scholarship awards are taxable and based on local tax laws (where Fellows are residents). Tuition is remitted directly to the Fellows' university and is not considered personal income. Fellows will be asked to submit the necessary tax information after accepting their award.
- Fellows who are US citizens will use a 1099-Miscellaneous tax form.
- Those who are not US citizens will receive a 1042-S tax document.
It is our policy that we do not advise Fellows on their tax filings. For additional guidance, Fellows should consult a tax professional.
Conflict of interest
PhD students are welcome to apply for a Meta-Research PhD Fellowship if their PhD is funded from other sources. If an applicant is selected as a winner, we will review potential conflicts of interest and determine what funding they will be eligible for (tuition vs. stipend, etc.).
However, if a winner has accepted another offer, fellowship, or other multi-year award funding from a competing company or industry organization, they must disclose that information so we can determine whether they Eligible to get Meta Research PhD Fellowship or not.
- Winners may be asked to decline funding from another company or industry competitor if they wish to accept a Meta-Research PhD Fellowship. Funding in this context includes research projects, fellowships, internships, contractor work, and employment.
- Mandatory military service or metacontractor positions are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- Funding from the winner's university or meta-internship or funding related to teaching need is permitted.

How to Apply for Facebook Fellowship Program
Applications must contain the following items:
- CV or resume.. There is no page limit for a resume or CV. In this case, it may be useful to have a longer CV to complement your achievements or any publications you wish to share.
- Research statement. Research statements must be 500 words or less and clearly identify your area of focus, its importance to the field, and its applicability to the meta as it relates to one of the available fellowships. Is. Note that citations or citations count toward the 500 word limit. CVs should include references and quotations, which do not have word or page limits, to improve the word count for research statements.
- Two letters of recommendation. One of the letters of recommendation needs to come from a PhD advisor or research advisor. Another may come from another professor or an industry contact.

Facebook Fellowship Program Application Process
- The 2023 application opens on August 3, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. PDT. Applicants can prepare to apply. Creating a SurveyMonkey Apply account. During the application process, applicants will be asked to provide contact information for references. After the application is submitted, references will receive an email to upload their letters to SurveyMonkey to Apply by October 6, 2022. Please see Apply SurveyMonkey. - Applications will close on 20 September 2022.. After the application deadline, changes to applications will no longer be accepted. There is no interview associated with the fellowship review process.
- Winners are notified in mid-January 2023.. Winners will be announced on the Meta Research Blog. Due to the volume of submissions, we are unable to provide individual feedback on proposals.
